Owek. Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa, the second Deputy Katikkiro and Minister of Finance, Investments, Planning and Economic Development in Buganda Kingdom, has praised the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) for its efforts in promoting tax literacy among small and medium businesses.

Speaking at the CBS PEWOSA expo that concluded in Masaka city recently, the Deputy Katikkiro recognised URA as the government agency that has brought its business closer to Ugandans despite its complexity.

“URA has continuously strived to reach all Ugandans, “he said,” You are in the face of the public and business people are now aware of the taxman and their obligation to pay taxes.”

The Deputy Katikkiro appreciated URA for supporting the Kingdom’s initiatives, especially those geared towards supporting special interest groups like farmers. He also challenged the agency to extend its services further into rural areas, observing that the tax education gap is still wide.

Robert Wamala, the Ag. Manager of Tax Education content praised the PEWOSA initiative for organising businesses and supporting government efforts in formalisation and tax compliance. He reaffirmed URA’s commitment to educating Ugandans on their rights and tax obligations through focused engagements and simplified literature.

The Masaka edition of the PEWOSA expo was an agribusiness trade fair bringing together thousands of visitors, agri-preneurs, government agencies and other stakeholders.

URA’s participation in the expo reaffirms its commitment to promoting tax literacy, which is key to achieving voluntary tax compliance.
