As part of URA’s corporate social responsibility efforts, URA has donated millions worth of essential food items to the Structured Imams and Amirats Assembly Uganda (SIAA), helping hundreds of faithful enjoy a more comfortable conclusion to the holy month of Ramadhan.

This engagement took place in Kawempe on Wednesday, attracting Faith leaders and the public in a glowing tribute to Uganda’s Muslim community.

Representing the URA Commissioner General Robert Kalumba, the Assistant Commissioner for Public & Corporate Affairs acknowledged the Muslim community’s contributions to the business sector and voluntary tax compliance initiatives, highlighting their positive impact on Uganda’s growth.

“This is the start of a bigger cooperation because faith leaders have a unique position of influence and trust within communities, making them partners in the struggle to liberate Uganda from economic dependence,” Kalumba said.

On the other hand, Sheikh Al-hajji Kasuali Saidi, the President of the SIAA, thanked URA for identifying with the Muslim community in Uganda. He welcomed continuous collaboration with URA, noting that the SIAA has promotes economic empowerment and improved household incomes among the Muslim communities.

“For the longest time, we have been largely known for trade, a fact that is clear for anyone to observe. The Quran is very clear in instructing all the faithful to follow the rules of the land in which they stay, and this includes taxation. We pledge to work with the URA to promote tax awareness and sensitization,” he emphasized.

The Chairperson of the Muslim community at URA, Hajji Salim Mubiru, reaffirmed the community’s commitment to serving Uganda with dignity and loyalty, while urging fellow Muslims to prioritize education and ensure their children attend school consistently.
