URA sensitizes Ntungamo youths on taxation

Uganda Revenue Authority recently joined over 2,400 students to celebrate the 10th Annual Youth Convention held at Kyamate Secondary School in the Ntungamo district.

The three-day gathering held under the theme “Imitating God’s Goodness by Doing Good” was organized by the South Ankole Diocese, led by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe.

The annual activity was established to guide the youths who are living in very uncertain times typified by information overload, and social destruction like drugs and alcohol.

As the students were edified spiritually, URA used this opportunity to publicize the tax gospel.

Isaac Aijuka, the Ag. Supervisor of Tax Education, Southwestern Region highlighted URA’s transition from an authority to a service-oriented organization.

He asserted that whereas Uganda attained colonial independence, it is yet to attain economic independence.

“We will only achieve this when we all play our part and contribute to the development of Uganda,” the tax education expert tipped the youths.

He also encouraged the students to help their parents maintain good business records.

Speaking about the event, Aijuka underscored the significance of URA’s involvement.

“It is about changing the negative perception people have about the revenue body,” he emphasized. “When we are seen participating in a youth event like this, they realize we are approachable and down-to-earth people.”

The team also set up a tax hub to disseminate tax knowledge to the students.
