The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) informs all taxpayers registered for Local Excise Duty that effective November 01, 2024, a new excise duty return will be implemented to streamline the filing process and improve accuracy of declarations.
The change from the Excel-based return to a new user-friendly web-based return offers several benefits, including:
- Enhanced compatibility: The web-based return is compatible with various devices and software thus eliminating compatibility issues associated with MS Excel programs.
- Reduced filing time and errors: The Local Excise Duty web return is pre-filled with production data from Digital Tax Stamp solution (DTS) thus minimizing filing time and data entry errors during the filing process.
- Simplified reconciliation: The new filing process allows for easy reconciliation of production volumes per Stock Keeping Unit (SKU).
This change will affect all Local Excise Duty returns (both goods and Services) commencing with the tax return of November 2024, which are due by 15th December 2024.
During the transition, URA will conduct trainings, avail training materials and all the necessary support to all affected taxpayers.
Note: All original and amended tax returns for prior tax periods prior to 01st November 2024 will continue with the Excel format.
