What is real estate?

Real estate is property made up of land and the buildings on it.

Uganda’s real estate sector is comprised of the following;

  1. Land dealers

A land dealer is a person who acquires land for resale and sells it as is.

  1. A land developer

 This is a person who acquires land for resale and adds value to it by partitioning it, e.g., 50×100, availing utilities near it, putting up a structure and other developments which increase its value. They may partition it or add utilities, structures, and other developments so that they increase its value.

  1. Property developer

This is a person who buys, builds or renovates existing properties and sells them.

  1. Real estate agents

This is a person who represent buyers or sellers in the sales and purchase of buildings, land and are licenced by the ministry of lands, housing and urban development.

Real estate agents also connect landlords to prospective tenants and vice versa.

  1. Landlord

This is any person who rents out immovable property (land and or buildings) to another person (the Tenant) for a payment. A landlord may take the form of: an individual, a company, a trust, government or an institution
