PAYMENT OF STAMP DUTY ON AGREEMENTS

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) informs all its clients and the general public to pay stamp duty on agreements executed or received in Uganda as provided under the Stamp Duty Act. The agreements include; sale agreements, purchase agreements, rental agreements, employment contracts, loan agreements, etc.

The law provides that a person who executes an agreement without payment of stamp duty commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred currency points or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both in accordance with Section 56(1)(b) of the Stamp Duty Act.

URA therefore reminds its esteemed clients and the general public to pay stamp duty of UGX 15,000 per agreement to avoid associated penalties for non-compliance. Payment of stamp duty can be made through the bank, mobile money, Point of Sale, or any other mode of payment after registering the payment on the URA web portal.

Please note that payment of stamp duty makes the agreement authentic and enforceable under the law.
