Uganda Revenue Authority has warned that individuals implicated in bribery cases risk arrest as the tax agency seeks to ensure integrity in revenue collection.

Speaking at a meeting with traders in Kasensero, Rakai district recently, Felicia Nakyeyune, the Supervisor of Staff compliance, emphasised that as URA cleans in-house, external facilitators of corruption are not immune from prosecution.

“If any officer is found soliciting or receiving a bribe or if a client is found offering one, both parties will be arrested and handed over to the police,” she said.

Nakyeyune advised traders to formalise their businesses, maintain proper records, and adhere to tax laws, reminding them of the national revenue target of UGX 40 trillion for this financial year.

James Abola, the Assistant Commissioner of the Integrity Compliance and Ethics division, made a similar call while addressing cross-border traders in Mutukula. He urged women to take a stand against corruption, set clear business goals, and improve financial planning.

The sessions provided a platform for traders to share their challenges and seek clarity on tax-related matters. Women were also sensitised on tax exemptions for goods valued below USD 2,000.

Bennza Jane, Chairperson of the Mutukula Women Business Association, praised URA’s ongoing outreach initiatives and called for more tax awareness sessions to empower female entrepreneurs.
