Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) wishes to notify the general public that we are required to secure passage of goods while in transit through Uganda by ensuring that transit cargo movement conforms to the established procedure.

However, we have noted increased requests to change transit cargo country of destination when goods are still at the Port and in other instances, after goods have already been moved inland to Malaba or Busia One Stop Border Posts.

The Business Community is encouraged to confirm and amend the final cargo destination while the goods are still at the port of first importation namely, Mombasa or Dar es Salaam. Any inland requests for change of cargo destination from Democratic Republic of Congo to South Sudan and vice versa shall not be granted henceforth.

Only legitimate requests for change of destination of transit cargo to Uganda for home consumption shall be permitted.

URA remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade and therefore calls upon the importers, exporters and clearing agents to always consign cargo to the intended destination or obtain change of destination approval while cargo is still at first Port of entry.
