Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has welcomed an 8-member delegation from the Malawi Revenue Authority for a five-day benchmarking visit on Digital Tax Stamps (DTS).

The benchmark, which started yesterday, saw the team learn about the key components of DTS, processes, implementation strategies, monitoring mechanisms, and enforcement procedures.

Bichetero Emmanuel, the URA Assistant Commissioner Tax Academy, lauded digital stamps as a key system that URA has leveraged in sealing revenue gaps.

“We think that this knowledge sharing will be mutually beneficial, as our digital tracking solutions have been instrumental in improving tax compliance and revenue collection,” he stated.

The URA team also shared their experiences, challenges, and successes in implementing the DTS, providing valuable lessons for the Malawian delegation.

Henry Ngutwa, the Deputy Commissioner General of the Malawi Revenue Authority, thanked URA for sharing their expertise.

The visit is expected to inform Malawi’s efforts to implement a similar digital tax system.

Meanwhile, URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi, welcomed his counterpart from the Malawi Revenue Authority, Daniel Dominic Daka, to discuss ways to strengthen ties and improve revenue collection in both countries.

The two commissioners delved into discussions about their respective countries’ economic landscapes, sharing insights on challenges and strategies employed, particularly in foreign exchange export and minerals.

Daka expressed gratitude to URA for the opportunity to benchmark and emphasized the need for continuous collaboration.

In line with Daka ’s sentiments, Musinguzi noted the need to work together as a continent to grow both countries.

He also highlighted the importance of cooperation and knowledge sharing between regional revenue authorities, citing the benefits of learning from each other’s experiences and best practices.

For URA, this meeting marked a new chapter in cooperation between URA and the Malawi Revenue Authority, promising fruitful results for both nations.

Musinguzi and Daka both reaffirmed their commitment to work together to achieve their shared goal of improving revenue collection and promoting economic growth.
