BBS and URA collaborate to boost tax awareness

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Buganda Broadcasting Services (BBS) have reaffirmed their partnership to use the media as a tool for educating the public about taxpayer rights and obligations.

Addressing a meeting with the BBS leadership, led by Managing Director Patrick Ssembajjo, URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi applauded the station for its commitment to journalistic excellence and its crucial role in tax awareness campaigns.

Musinguzi acknowledged that the media is an “economic partner” and “critical ally” in shaping public understanding of tax policies and promoting Uganda’s economic self-reliance.

“The media’s primary role is to inform and educate. By raising awareness of tax obligations, media platforms like BBS empower Ugandans to take ownership of their civic responsibilities,” he noted.

He commended BBS for actively supporting URA’s tax education efforts, especially in raising awareness about the tax waiver program, the Digital Tax Stamp campaign, and Stamp Duty regulations over the past year.

The Commissioner General called for a stronger, more targeted partnership to expand tax awareness across the country, ensuring that more Ugandans are informed about their tax rights and obligations.

“With continued collaboration, we can change public perceptions about taxation, improve compliance, and accelerate tax education. Well-informed reporting will not only help citizens understand their tax duties but also promote greater accountability among taxpayers,” Musinguzi emphasized.
