Welcome To Research Lab

Background

The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) collaborated to establish a Secure Research Lab within the URA premises. The Lab contains collated, quality-assured and anonymized administrative tax data availed to researchers upon request.
The Secure Research Lab under the Strategy and Risk management Division is located at the URA Headquarters, on the URA NIP building, Plot M193/4 Nakawa Industrial Area, Kampala.

The Research Lab can only be accessed during working hours, between 8 am and 5 pm excluding lunch hours on weekdays, and declared Ugandan public holidays. From time to time, the lab will be shut for maintenance. Researchers will be notified as early as possible to minimize disruptions.
Analysis tools currently available and recommended include;

  • R and
  • Python

 

Procedure to access the Research Lab

  • Send a research proposal to research@ura.go.ug for feasibility checks
  • Sign an oath of secrecy
  • Successful applicants receive full documentation on guidelines
  • Receive feedback about the research proposal submitted
  • Make a booking via research.ura.go.ug
  • Come along with full identification and access the research lab
  • Researchers are strongly encouraged to follow the established lab rules and regulations
